About MAD K
Our Journey…
Saying ‘our journey’ sounds like such a cliché, but it really has been an amazing journey, from selling cakes from our little shop in Worcester where one of our clients asked us to make them a steak and kidney pie… The rest is history really as from that we then went on to selling in food festivals, then restaurants and also then supplying wholesale customers.
We have had to think on our feet, role with the punches, rise to the challenges that daily get set before us, but one thing that has never changed has been our absolute dedication to sourcing quality, local ingredients and of course having a smile on our faces no matter how tough things could be sometimes. Our wonderful customers and also our loyal suppliers fuel our passion for excellence.
We became known for our Gluten Free products with Vegan and Vegetarian options to attempt at accommodating all dietary requirements, but then we started winning awards in non-Gluten Free categories of the British Pie Awards and other such events! We were amazed at the response so we converted our games room into a production site.
We have now outgrown the games room kitchen and one month before lockdown in 2020 we joined forces with my brother David and his wife Jennifer to acquire an amazing business premises in Portsmouth. timing could have been better, but we have survived!!
2021 was a big year for us, we won overall dessert pie award in the British Pie Awards with our gluten free Rhubarb and Custard pie, this even got a mention on the BBC news! It was also the year that we managed to achieve SALSA food hygiene accreditation, making us one of only a handful of companies that have achieved this in the Portsmouth area.
Half way through 2021 we also employed our first full time member of staff, Sam, by the end of 2021 we had 6 more part time staff and a full time manager! We are looking forward to more success in 2022 and thank all of our customers for your ongoing support. We could not do any of this without you!
